LBI Awards

Dr Noel Hennessy, Managing Director of Practical Lean Solutions and Dr Felicity Kelliher of RIKON developed a shortlisted paper, based on Dr Hennessy’s Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) research and have been selected as a finalist for the:

  • Lean Learning: Research Award for Best Contribution to Lean/ Operational Excellence Body of Work 2018.

This research focuses on whether a continuous improvement  initiative can create a process of social exchange which is conducive to stimulating employee engagement. The study was carried out in a medical technology company, where a series of three rounds of interviews were carried out with twenty members of the company’s team leader and manager groups over a six-month period.

The study identified how a continuous improvement process acted as a catalyst for social exchange which emerged through stakeholder interactions. The process was found to be a positive and fulfilling experience for both team leaders and their managers by highlighting the social dimensions of the process and in doing so, enhance individual engagement in their organisational setting.

With sincere thanks to Dr Jennifer Hennessy, WIT School of Business for her significant contribution to this study.

Best of luck to all finalists.
