Tool - Action Priority Matrix

The purpose of this technique is to support the selection of ideas, prioritising those which constitute an effective and efficient use of an organisation’s time. It is most suitable for complex cases, plotting the value of an idea on the Y-axis of a matrix, against the effort required for its execution on the X-axis. This creates four quadrants into which ideas may be categorised, ‘quick wins’, ‘major projects’, ‘fill ins’, and ‘thankless tasks’. Consequently, it enables actions that provide the greatest value in the shortest period of time, to be distinguished from ideas that may be a significant drain on time and resources without adding significant value.
